fifth vertical poetry #27
The faces that you've abandoned
have remained under your face
and sometimes they bulge out
as though your skin cannot contain them all
The hands that you've abandoned
swell up sometimes in your hand
and absorb things or releasethem like growing sponges
The lives that you have abandoned
survive you in your shadow
and on one day they will storm you like a life
to die perhaps once alone
Roberto Juarroz
translated by W.S Merwin
